Keeping it Simple with a Shower

I reached a Mommy Milestone this week.

My husband had to be out of town for business which means I've had all three kiddos by myself for the last couple of nights. Normally, this would be no big deal, but this is the first time I've had three by myself. And since the oldest isn't yet 3 1/2, I consider this to be a milestone. In fact, I just might have to put it in the scrapbook.

What, you may ask, does this have to do with frump fighting? Well, it's simple. Times like these call for a review of the basics, such as, well, showering. It is pretty tough to fight any type of frump if you have greasy hair and smell like a milk factory from nursing the baby.

So, I take a shower at night. I know that I'm going to be woken up at least twice in the eight hours that I attempt to be in the vicinity of my bed. That makes it highly unlikely that I'll leave my bed to shower before the first munchkin clamors for breakfast or the potty or whatever.

Of course, if you miss the shower once or twice because you collapse in utter exhaustion once the baby finally goes to sleep, no worries. The more frazzled and frumpy you look when Hubby returns, the more likely it is you'll be allowed to go out by yourself on Saturday morning. (That is absolutely not a hint for my husband. Not at all, promise.)

So hit the shower and fight the frump. For more tips, visit Fussy!

Ooh, I've had one of those weeks. When a shower is all I can muster to FTF. Probably should shave too?

I have a very smart pediatrician (who has 2 boys near the ages of mine) who always reminds me to let baby cry in his bed for the 10 minutes I take a shower. He says baby will be fine crying and be cared for better after I've had a shower. He's so right! I'm thinking he learned that from his wife. = )

You will always feel better after a good shower/ bath and if you feel good you will look so much better!

I "normally" shower at night too. That helped me SO MUCH when my little boy was small.

I've recently switched the showering routine up a bit and trying it again in the am. I only do that on days I know I don't have a deadline to be somewhere (even tho I always shower before 7:30 - I still can't be sure I will get my face on in time if I have to be somewhere early schmerly)

If I know I have a deadline (besides taking my little boy to school) I always shower the night before.

I thought I had my hands full! lol

It seems like such a simple thing - Only Moms could understand what a truly amazing feat this is! Congrats! LOL!

So true -- a long, hot shower will make you more human than just about anything else (well, maybe caffeine or something, though I read that apples are even better for making you feel more "awake" -- not that you WANT to be awake at bedtime!)

I hate having to dry my hair again, but sometimes I just have to take two showers a day, and it feels sooo good.

Hope hubby takes takes non-hint, and you get some alone time -- you deserve it!

oops -- i meant to say "make you FEEL more human;" wasn't trying to imply anyone needs a shower to BE more human!

Enjoy your Saturday off! Go do something alone like a quick manicure or something. I know with kids that young it is hard to leave for long but hopefully you can get out for a little bit.

i hear of so many moms that 'can't shower' because of their kids. i'm glad you're putting it out there that you SHOULD. ;-)

A long shower is like therapy, isn't it? You always feel better afterward.

I had three under four too! First two are 13 month apart and the next came 20 months later. It can be so exhausting! Enjoy every minute - it goes by so fast!

I always try and squeeze in at least enough of a shower that I can get my hair washed even if I don't get to spend a zillion minutes primping and scrubbing at least clean hair is an essential.

Bless you! And I love the shower at night idea. I always take a bath every evening and it is calming and cleaning. Hang in there!

Ah, the best and most basic frump fighting idea. I do my best at this, but struggle because of the kids, like you. Showering at nights works better but I hate it because my hair is all crazy in the morning. But it's worth it if I have to do anything before noon the next day.
