Organization Help

Today is another Backwards Works-for-Me Wednesday. That means I get to ask you for tips. This is a good thing, because today, I've got nothing, but, I could use lots of help.

I'd really like someone to tell me how to get my four-week-old- nursing baby to sleep ten hours at a stretch. But, alas, I know that is a tall order, so I'll settle for you helping me keep my car clean. Oh, who am I kidding, it isn't a car, it's a minivan.

So let me have it. Anything you do to keep your car organized, smelling good, looking good, whatever, please just share your tip. Otherwise, my van is going to be permanently smelling like a diaper pail with the faint scent of curdled-sippy-cup milk lingering in the air. It will also continue to resemble the bottom of my coat closet--not good.

Thanks in advance for your wonderful tips. Please be sure to visit Rocks in My Dryer to share and get more lovely ideas.

I have 4 kids, so things pile up fast in the car. I've had to institute the what goes in the car either goes back into the house when we get home or it goes into the Goodwill box. I get a little lazy with this if we get home late, but it has helped cut the clutter by half. I also clean the car out once a month. I had a car air freshener that clipped onto the air vents, but always forgot to refill it. Spraying with Febreeze and vacuuming after sprinkling with baking soda helps, too.

I don't have any kids... but I'm sure my car could compete with the best of them in the unorganized car title. I keep a duffel bag in the car and every Saturday take all of the things I left in the car and put them in the duffel bag. I take it inside, empty, and put away. Then I take the duffel bag back out to the car. It's a real easy way to get rid of clutter if you are having other people in your car as well.

We have a small basket that goes back and forth between the house and car for stuff that needs to go with us and so that we make sure it all goes back.

I'm happening by through the WFMW/rocks in my dryer site: And I don't know what you're trying with your newborn, but one thing that worked for me was doing a "dream feeding" around 11 pm, right before I went to sleep. I'd go in my daughter's room and not wake her up, but nurse her quietly, then put her back down. This helped her make longer stretches at night.
As for the car- offer a friend to pick their child up from somewhere. :) Just knowing someone else would see my car is motivation to clean it out. Or set one night a week as your "clean out the car" night.

We just bought a new van (yay!), and I am determined not to let it get messy. We bought a trash bin for the van, and two basket type containers. One I'm using for toys to KEEP in the van. The other to take stuff back and forth. They also sell organizers that go on the back of your seat.

I once read somewhere that tucking a dryer sheet under one of the seats keeps a nice smell in your car!

With 6 kids they are always filling up the van. We have started a rule that when you get out of the van at home take your mess with you. All of it. We also do not allow the children to eat in the van. That is one of the biggest mess makers ever!!!
Febreeze works wonderfully on stale smells and I have a clear tub in the back to keep neccesities in that we need to have in the van.
